Recently one of my men cut a wire in the wall going to the Air Conditioning unit. When he did that the main breaker blew, the breaker that was hooked to the Air Conditioning unit did not even blow and I was wondering why the main blew and not the breaker that the unit was hooked to. Thanks Bill
Was the wire cut between the main panel and the AC breaker, or between the AC breaker and the AC unit?
@contrex,
between the breaker and the ac unit
@Bill Heinz,
If it blew the main the current draw had to be more than the mains rating, probably 100 or 200 A. Must have been a big enough ac unit.
@Bill Heinz,
If it were a 100 amp main and it was loaded at say 80 amps at the moment and the ac breaker was a 30 then in this case the main would reach over-current before the ac
