My1999 f-150 has 40,000 miles on vehicle & just last month blew head gaskets and two pistons calculated out under mfg. specs resulting in (2) choices for me !!! (1) Replace engine@$6,000.00 (2) Repair head gaskets@$2,500.00. All @ my expense no help or acknowledgement from ford!!! I'm looking for another American made full size pick up mfg. to sell me ...(AMERICA'S TOUGHEST BUILT PICK UP TRUCK ??? )..Meanwhile, help me make ford fess up & start recalling this huge safety/mechanical nightmare !!! I have surfed NHSTA web site & found thousands of complaints in all catagories about obvious defects and the worst (such as mine ) problems reporting blown engines, heads, iol leaking from heads onto exhaust manifolds creating huge potential for fire !!! this is a safety hazzard as well CATASTROPHIC PROBLEM for the unfortunate 1999 Ford F-150 owners! Lets bring Ford to the table to answer & make it right!! THANX...JEFFL

With only 40,000 miles, wouldn't it still be under the powertrain warranty?

Three years or 36,000 !!! unless of course your not a LOYAL AMEICAN car buyer, then your Warranty would be 10 years/ 100,000 miles such as four korean / japanese manufacturers!!! Very sad huh! Thanx for reply jarlnian; Jeff L.

I hate to repeat what you have heard already several times, but since you are outside the warranty, you don't have any recourse (except to complain publicly, as you are doing here).

And Ford really won't care enough to do anything about it, unless people really do start dying.

And then only if the body count rises to a certain double-digit level, high enough to get someone's attention who can make a difference in the board room.

99 Explorer blown at 36,000 miles
I like you am in the same boat now I just got news that my 99 Explore has blown head gaskets and after and hour on the phone with Ford they are unwilling to help in any way. This was my first and last FORD - it has been a Fix Or Repair Daily ordeal since owning. I cannot believe they can build such inferior products and stick their customers. Gee I wonder why they are losing market share!!! I wish I had some news to share on how to get help at FORD they just don't care. The dealer however is willing to cut the costs of repair to keep me a customer yet the OE does not care.
Good luck and if I find anything I will share it with you.

Uhh, my boss had a 3/36 total warranty with 7/70 powertrain coverage on his DODGE truck. I think he needed it once (radiator at ~24K). With over 120,000 miles, it's still going strong.

I thought Ford's powertrain coverage was 5/60?

PS--353,000 on my F-350, & still going strong.
