@hingehead,
I remember this song well, and I've trawled the net to find the lyrics. It was really popular during Christmas 1974; and was often played on commercial (AM) radio stations; I remember especially 2UW and 2SM playing it. I used to sing it with my friends too, and we'd all have a good laugh. The lyrics, if I remember correctly were:

First day: A triple fronted brick veneer home
Second day: 2 Garden gnomes
Third day: 3 ducks in flight
Fourth day: 4 jars of vege
Fifth day: Fiiiive sausage rolls!
Sixth day: 6 cans of Camp Pie
Seventh day: 7 bathroom tiles
Eighth day: 8 Gold Coast teaspoons
Ninth day: 9 mulga wood ashtrays
Tenth day: The Bill!!!

with the price of real estate in Australia these days, I'd love someone to give me a triple fronted brick veneer home - worth AUD1M or more in major capital cities in the Land of Oz now.

@Kate the Mate,
Thanks Kate - 9 'Mulga wood ashtrays'. This will be preserved for future generations on the interwebs

@Kate the Mate,
What were 11 and 12?

Also wondering how ashtrays made of wood, be it ever so dense, panned out.
