I believe if an official of a firm fails to exercise adequate supervision leading to losses by outside parties, that the official can be civilly sued for damages by the injured parties and/or by the government.

Can a government official (e.g., a supervisor in a government agency) be sued for damages by the injured parties and/or by the government?
