When I was a kid i used to watch a cartoon that would come on in the afternoons i think before or after starblazers dunno. Well what i remember of it was the main characters used three planes that would join together to form one robot to fight the bad guy: one was red he was the leader, two was the blue one, three was a yellow one..... Been racking my brains for years trying to remember the name of this cartoon. If you know the name please respond i am running out of hair to pull
Are you sure there were only three of them?
Sounds kinda like lion Voltron but there were five and they were lions not planes.

not voltron or transformers
Like i said the main characters were three guys in three planes.
the planes stacked on one another formed one robot. when the red one was on top it formed the main fighting robot. when the blue one was on top it formed a robot with a grapple arm. the yellow one had treads on its feet and could go under water. there was a female with a lady pink robot. i still cant find the name. it came on before or after starblazers that i know for sure.
i remember voltron i watched it form the lions to the cars. and not transformers i am a transformers nut i still have the original die cast even some japanese imports. if anybody know a site with old tv listings drop a line. thanks.
Sounds totally like Voltron to me.

probably way off, but was it power rangers?
It just sounds firmiliar, and i used to watch power rangers. Sorry i coulndt have been more help
