Here is the incorrect sentence: "Motivated by the game's importance and a shared desire to win, the victory of the baseball team was the result of an unparalleled joint effort.
A. The victory of the baseball team was a result of an unparalleled joint effort
B. The baseball team's victory was a result of its unparalleled joint effort
C. The baseball team was victorious due to its unparalleled joint effort
D. Its unparalleled joint effort had resulted in the baseball team's victory
E. An unparalleled joint effort had brought victory to the baseball team
Ok, so Kaplan says the answer is C, but I want to know how is that so. Don't B sound reasonable? Can you tell me how I am wrong. 10 points if you can give a detail explanation on how all others are wrong. Thanks!
@Merlan114,
114 I think they're all ok including the "wrong" one
Maybe Kaplan will return to explain
"Motivated by the game's importance and a shared desire to win" modifies the team, not the victory.
The victory / was \result (of an unparalleled joint effort.)
@Merlan114,
Not having much luck with this one, eh, Justin?
What are Kaplan's reasons?
@PUNKEY,
Quote:"Motivated by the game's importance and a shared desire to win" modifies the team, not the victory.
That objection had briefly occurred to me too. But then decided, why couldn't it modify "victory"
