Two yellow and one red house(s) ?

To have a plural immediately after a "one red house" sounds funny (granted, the phrasing is probably awkward to begin with, but bear with me). Since there are definitely 3 houses total, house should be plural, no ? Or is it because it should read "One red and two yellow houses" and the alternative is wrong ?

@gbelange,
the adjective red is about the single house, so it's singular.

you could say "two yellow houses and one red."
