I registered my telephone number with New York State and as I understand it, the United States for "do not call" status.
Today, my phone rang and my answering machine answered the call. The message was commercial in nature (i.e., an offer of employment at a call center). The message included a local phone number to call if I was interested in accepting such employment.
Instead I started to go to the government site for reporting of such illegal calls. While looking for the government website, I found a lawyer's website offering to take the information instead of my providing it directly to the government. The lawyer site says that the government offers in certain cases a reward to those who report such information. It said I could earn $500 to $1,500. It didn't say what the lawfirm would get or what I would get by reporting it directly.
Does anyone know about this. Advice?

Yeah, if you're dealing with a lawyer, he'll get the money, not you. How is there any money in this for reporting? I don't think the govt gives a crap about companies calling. I know I've had about 30 calls on my cell with a robocaller saying "Congratulations, you've won a trip to the Bahamas".

I think most of the robocalls originate outside of the U.S. and are difficult to prosecute.
I was surprised that this call gave a local phone number.

Yeah, well I registered our landline and both our cells on the respective Do Not Call lists and we're still getting calls. These robocalls are the worst because you can't tell them to take you off their lists.
