Did Jesus Actually Exist?

@timur,
You are very bad at pretending, I'll grant you that. Nobody believes you. But you're still trying to lie, because you're not smart enough to realize your failure.

@Olivier5,
Ouch!

You are now pretending to be an expert in success.

Good luck with that!

You saying so doesn't make it true..

No it doesn't.

What makes it true...is that it is true.

And so that I actually get back to the subject of the thread, I'd like to repeat what I said when the thread was initiated:

Whether a single person, Jesus, existed or not is not as important as the fact that there was a movement in Judaism at that time that treated some of the teachings contained in the Old Testament with the scorn and approbation they so richly deserved.

And whether or not Jesus actually existed as a single person is not as important as the fact that the institution "Christianity" has had an impact on life on planet Earth...a rather significant impact.

Some of the impact has been positive (in my opinion)...and some negative (again, in my opinion).

There appears to be no way to KNOW if a single individual, the Jesus mentioned in the Bible, existed. There doesn't seem to be clear, non-ambiguous, probative evidence to make a guess either way.

Why bother making a blind guess either way?

@Frank Apisa,
Did you forget already that you always pretended we don't know the truth?

@timur,
I do know what success looks like, and it doesn't look like your hatred of entire humanity, nor your anti-science discourse, nor your lack of logic, nor your relentless ad hominem here.

I have never pretended...nor asserted...that we don't know the truth. (About what???)

I have said, and will say again, "I do not know the true nature of the REALITY of existence...and I doubt anyone else here does either."

Try to stay alert, Timur, there may be a pop quiz at any time.

@Olivier5,
You obsess over this topic endlessly. Try to relax and let people have their take on it. You and Frank want to bully people into agreeing or backing off, endlessly. There will always be those who see things differently than you to. Might as well get used to it. Also, trying to provoke by accusing others of being angry about this is a cheap stunt.

@edgarblythe,
No provocation from me. Read Timur's posts. There is a price to pay for behaving the way he does: he does come across as rabid. Seriously: let's list all the insults he sent my way, and all the insults I sent his way, and lets see who is trying to provoke whom...

I am tired of this thread too, which is why I don't argue the case anymore. It's all upthread anyway, each argument repeated several times already.

What made me stick to it was curiosity. I wanted to know if this board could live up to its name, 'able to know'. This is a good topic for such a test because 1) it is a bit counter-intuitive that serious, dispassionate science and scholarship would help affirm the historic existence of a Bible character, and therefore one would expect some resistance; and 2) at the same time, I know this topic very well and I am as certain as can be of my facts.

The result is not as bad as one may think. Many posters came in, agreed with the likelihood of some wandering rabbi being probably the root of the JC legends, and left... There was no serious challenge to the OP: I asked many time for the name of ONE historian or otherwise qualified scholar who is currently a 'Jesus mythicist', and nobody could find one... So the board as a whole is not incapable of learning, but SOME (now identified) individuals are.

What is your problem, Edgar.

You bully people much more than I do...and I often do it with a great deal more humor than you show.

Get off that grudge or whatever the hell is bothering you...and deal with yourself...not me.

How am I going to bully anyone into my position here...when my position is that I do not know and it truly does not matter in the grand scheme of things.

What is your problem?

Don't you think you're being a mite hysterical here? Racking up the hyperbole isn't what people normally do when they're winning an argument.

Don't behave histerically, Izzy. It makes you look like a loser, ya know? This was just a jibe at Timur's hatred of religion.

@Olivier5,
There's only one person looking like a loser, and it's the same person who can't spell hysterically. Saying someone hates the whole of humanity is extreme, it's not a jibe at someone's dislike of religion.

@izzythepush,
I guessed as much... Well, keep reading the signs, Izzy. Go ahead, comb through all of Timur's posts to spot signs of hysterical defeat. You should have no problem finding them, objective and neutral as you are...

Here we go. A quick 3 card reading.

http://www.biddytarot.com/cards/moon_rx.jpg

Moon reversed – General mental health issues, including fear, anxiety and depression, that haven’t yet been explored or resolved. Recommend that you work with a trained professional (possibly a hypnotherapist) to uncover some of these deep, subconscious concerns.
http://www.biddytarot.com/cards/nine_swords.jpg

Nine of Swords – Anxiety and depression that is spurred on by very negative self-talk. It can also point to insomnia as a result of stress and anxiety and the constant ‘mind chatter’ about everything that is going wrong.

http://www.biddytarot.com/cards/nine_wands_rx.jpg

Nine of Wands reversed – Nine of Wands reversed – Paranoia and feeling as if the world is against you. If accompanied by the Nine of Swords, (and it is) you're probably hearing voices that contribute to the paranoia.

Looks like it's not a load of old bollocks after all.
