I am looking at a 1976 911S in New Mexico for purchase. Anyone got a tip on a good dealer or independant shop where I could have a thorough inspection done?

Thanks, Jim

the 76 911 S/Carrera had the 2.7 engine, but the 76 Carrera 911 had the 3.0 engine. the 2.7 was dropped at the end of 77. on the VIN number-the fifth digit from the right (0=911 SC Carrera 1= Targa, 5-6-7 indicate various Turbo models. these are all "dry-sump" engines and the engine cases all leak oil, valve guides wear easily and that model uses the older mechanical clutch, the up-graded and stronger M-50 transmission was not available until the mid 80,'s. BTW I am not aware of any Porsche specialists in Nerw Mexico but check Porsche Owners Club of America for information.
