Obama IRS admits witch hunt against Tea Party, patriot groups

Quote:
The Internal Revenue Service is apologizing for inappropriately flagging conservative political groups for additional reviews during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status.
Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS unit that oversees tax-exempt groups, said organizations that included the words “tea party” or “patriot” in their applications for tax-exempt status were singled out for additional reviews.
Lerner said the practice, initiated by low-level workers in Cincinnati, was wrong and she apologized while speaking at a conference in Washington.

IRS Apologizes for Targeting Conservative Groups

Quote:
The Internal Revenue Service is apologizing for inappropriately flagging conservative political groups for additional reviews during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status.

Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS unit that oversees tax-exempt groups, said organizations that included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their applications for tax-exempt status were singled out for additional reviews.

Lerner said the practice, initiated by low-level workers in Cincinnati, was wrong and she apologized while speaking at a conference in Washington.

Many conservative groups complained during the election that they were being harassed by the IRS. They said the agency asked them an inordinate number of questions to justify their tax-exempt status.

Certain tax-exempt charitable groups can conduct political activities but it cannot be their primary activity.

Is there any chance the Obama administration will be apologizing
to the world for how they handled the terrorist attack in Benghazi?

Is there any chance the Obama administration will be apologizing
to American citizens for how terribly damaging ObamaCare is?

House Republicans say a hearing will be held on the IRS after the tax-collecting agency
acknowledged that it targeted conservative political groups during the 2012 election.

This abuse of power is much more widespread that first thought...

IRS Targeting Went Beyond Tea Party

The Tea Party and 'patriot' groups weren't the only ones facing additional scrutiny by the IRS — documents obtained by Fox News show the agency also targeted groups focused on government spending, the Constitution and more...

Evidently this clear abuse of power was planned to coincide with the signing of ObamaCare...

@H2O MAN,
In my opinion EVERY group that applies for 501(C) status that has a name that indicates it will likely support or oppose a candidate should be under increased scrutiny.

For that matter, Congress should increase the IRS budget to audit ALL tax exempt groups every 4 years to examine their political activity that might violate their tax exempt status.

But in this case:
Are you willing to argue that Tea Party groups didn't oppose Obama H20? Under the 501(c) those groups are not supposed to be political at all. They get tax exempt status to "promote social welfare."

Hmm.... a Tea Party group that is promoting "social welfare." Do you really think the goverment should be providing tax incentives to groups that promote "social welfare"?

@OmSigDAVID,
I wonder where these groups got the money and expertese to put out these million dollar political campaigns. It would be nice to know which multi billionaires put up the capitol. You know, good american citizens like the Koches and Waltons who only want to help the poor and middle class become poorer and more lower middle class.
