There is some conjecture about all this, in that it's fairly unlikely that #2 is the instigator.

Pot is just one of several slang names for marijuana. Some of the others: weed, grass, ganja, poco lolo (only in Hawaii), dope (mainly among old-timers; kids don't call it that), others.
