Are you sure that you have the other letters right? I went through the alphabet, and nothing fit!

Life. It's a pretty bright light.

Could it be "lume" as in the base of luminate?

I suspect one of your cross words is wrong thus you will never find the right answer. But good luck!

The intersecting letters ARE correct

I just found this site (via the wonderful Google!) and joined because of the same clue in that crossword, which is appropriately called 'The Stinker'.

The intersecting words, and their clues, are:

'Famous insurance body' = Lloyds
'More work-shy' = lazIer
The next letter is on its own
'Put forward (theory)' = proposEd

For it to be 'LUME', a different answer to 'more work-shy' would have to fit with LA_MER. I can't find "lume" in any dictionary, either.

The closing date for entries is May 13 so there's plenty of time - at the moment.

I think I may have found the answer. If proposed is altered to propound 292 across would read LIMN which I have found in one of my dictionaries to read "illuminate". I can usually finish these crosswords every month but I thought I had missed out this time. Hopefully this will be right. Thanks to everyone for their help.

Hi, If you go to Lovatts Crosswords site you will be able to find out more. I subscribe for the full works which includes BIG Crossword & Colossus Crossword which are issued each month Ten there is Puzzle Collection which is issued every 2 months.

I too am looking for that one last word in order to complete my Lovatts puzzle.
The clue is "suffuse with bright light" and the letters are L I ? E.
I am convinced that all other solutions are correct.
Could it possibly be LIFE?

BTW, the answer can't be "life." The clue is in the form of a verb.

Would the slang word "lite" work? I think it could be a verb.
