They too thought they owned guns for "protection"...

Bill Moyers: Since Sandy Hook, there have been 27 school shootings (counting the one today at Arapahoe High School).

@RexRed,
A man armed with a gun entered a cell phone store on Chicago’s South Side
and attempted to rob the establishment. The clerk on duty responded
to the threat by retrieving a gun and shooting the criminal, killing him.

Police have identified the deceased robber as a convict who was
paroled earlier in the year. The criminal had been serving time for
armed robbery with a firearm. (The Chicago Tribune, Chicago, Ill. 12/11/13)

@OmSigDAVID,
Too Young to Die: DeAndre Ricketts
http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/deandre-ricketts

Friends, relatives, teachers, and principals called him “Papa,” a nickname DeAndre Ricketts’ mother began using when he was a baby.

DeAndre, 16, was an outgoing teenager known for encouraging others with compliments, hugs, and kisses. “You could be having a bad day and he would come around and make it a good day,” his mother, Sharon Murchison, told msnbc. He often made music by drumming his hands on nearby objects or singing.

DeAndre, a junior at Hoke County High School in his hometown of Raeford, N.C., planned to join the Air Force after graduation. If that didn’t work out, he wanted to work as a tattoo artist.

DeAndre was shot and killed at a friend’s birthday party in Hoke County, N.C., on Oct. 13. The investigation is ongoing.

Was he sufficiently WELL ARMED in his own defense
and was he sufficiently well trained in defensive battle tactics ??

or
was he just taking his chances ??

Is it PRUDENT to do that??

Shud gun control laws REQUIRE every citizen,
in the name of safety, to be well armed in his own defense ???

Acts 2:32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the guns which he possessed was his own; but they had all love in common. 33 And with great power gave the apostles witness and great grace was upon them all. 34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of bullets and munitions sold them as scrap metal, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, 35 And also they laid all their guns and weapons down at the apostles' feet:

Err, I slightly edited this... Smile

@OmSigDAVID,
But you ignore all other evidence David.
During the time that gun ownership increase the number of households with guns decreased. During that time the number of teenage boys decreased. The number of males in prison increased. All of which could have had an effect larger than the total number of guns in private hands.

In fact the number of guns in private hands would be the least likely cause as a person can not use 10 guns at one time. Fewer people owning more guns does not lead to a reasonable conclusion that the number of guns is causing the decrease in crime.

@OmSigDAVID,
http://content.gallup.com/origin/gallupinc/GallupSpaces/Production/Cms/POLL/sgcossbzcei5hhmpeq0ryq.gif
Quote:

According to the report, the "firearm-related murder and non-
negligent homicide" rate was 6.6 per 100,000 Americans in 1993.
Following the exponential growth in the number of guns, that rate
fell to 3.6 per 100,000 in 2000.

Interesting that homicide per 100,000 was higher then gun ownership was 25% higher. It seems the reduction in gun ownership tracks closely with the reduction in homicide.

@parados,
I don t think its plausible
that people threw their guns in the garbage.

Does defensively killing criminals count as "homicide"
for purposes of this count, Mr. P ?

NO. That number includes SUICIDE. Everyone is perfectly within his rights
to end his human life, if so he opts. Yes??????

Presumably, that number 's "homicide" component
includes DEFENSIVE HOMICIDE: that means
that the victim successfully killed the predator
and that is super-wonderful!!!!!,
the occasion for great JOY!

NO, Rex!
Its that u take your gun with u EVERYWHERE,
the same as your wallet. Its better to HAVE a gun and not need it
than it is to NEED a gun and not HAVE it.

Being un-armed can bring bad luck.

"As a nation, we can’t stop every act of violence. We can’t heal every troubled mind. But if we want to live in a country where we can go to work, send our kids to school, and walk our streets free from fear, we have to keep trying. We have to keep caring. We have to treat every child like they’re ours. Like those in Sandy Hook, we must choose to love. And together, we must and can change." —President Obama on the anniversary of Newtown http://OFA.BO/QsM5Mr

WHATAYAMEAN "Insane"???? Thay were KILLED in the school!
How much worse cud it get than that????
Will u explain that, please, Rex????

I wish that the victims had been armed well enuf
to kill the criminal predators; at that age, I imagine
that some of them cud have aimed and fired correctly
and others cud not do so. Its better to try. Give them defensive training.
