Could states outlaw gun purchases?

Strictly reading the 2nd amendment simply allows for the possession of guns/arms. Could this be a loophole for states to make political statements, so to speak?

The 2nd amendment is a financial trick used by gun and ammunition manufacturers to sell their overpriced toys. In the real world guns would be controlled just as are cars. It can be changed just as have other admendments to the constitution.

No. The right to own the weapon confers the right to buy the weapon.
