Identifying Italian Artist of Painting of Couple

I am attempting to identify the artist of this painting: http://tinypic.com/r/9uyl4n/6

The only background information I have is that it was brought to the U.S. by a family member from Italy in the late 1940s. It was originally given to the family member as a wedding gift in the 1930s, but was supposedly in her family for sometime before that. A relative of mine also said she visited someone's home about 20 years ago, and this person had a print of this painting and three others of the same couple. At the time, this person indicated that the paintings were done by a well known Italian artist.

Any ideas on the painter or how we can identify this?

if you go back to your tinypic page, you can "Grab your Code" (IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards)...

i resized the image by 50% so it would fit here w/o scrolling...
