We live in Sth West France and I have noticed a lot of these in the garden.
They are usually in large clusters on trees, bushes, piles of earth & on the ground and building walls.
Are they destructive (can't say I have noticed any plant damage) and do I need to control them, if so how?
Thx in advance for your help.
Kev

@kevhatch,
Pyrrhocoris apterus, also known as the firebug. They are harmless to a garden. They don't damage any plants and will help you by eating some pests, such as aphids.
