I bought a very tiny camera and it has IR light and needs power. Unfortunately it did not come with a power supply, but in the manual it says that it needs:
Input Voltage not more that 12 DC, current not exceed 250 mA.
All the power supplies I have in my home is 12V, but 0.8 or 1.0 A.

What will happen if I use too high amperage ?

@LItta,
I presume U;tra that the cam has a batt and that it requires to be charged from a 12-v source. The 1-amp supply will probably work just fine for this purpose

However if not well regulated the overvoltage could overcharge

@dalehileman,
It actually does not have a battery, but need constant power supply. It's a camera, that I am going to put in a bird box, so that I can watch the activity there.

@LItta,
In that case Litta, somehow determine whether your 12-v 1-amp supply is well regulated. Find somebody who can bring a voltmeter. If it still puts out 12v at no load, it's just fine regardless of its current capacity

Then you can successfully use it to power three or four such cameras at the same time
