@Frank Apisa,

The assertion that you are just having a bit of fun, which we have not a shred of evidence for, quite the contrary, is simply a conversational gambit, as worn out as the knees of a devout priest's trousers, specifically deployed in order to gain the upper hand in a discourse. (MYOEP). All you need do is declare you are just having a bit of fun and you have a home run. No ball, no bat, no pitcher. The ploy, I can't class it as a devious one unless I assume A2Kers are all stupid, is normally brought into play when the position having been backed into is found to be a
cul-de-sac. Why else?
It is hardly worth saying in intelligent company that it fails to achieve the objective simply because it is impossible for it to do so. It is very likely it will raise an astonished eyebrow.
And it implies that I am not pulling your chain.
Are you just having a bit of fun the rest of the time or is it only when you're stumped? The former is considerably less respectable that the latter.
And that I'm a pompous twit is simply another version of the seemingly infinite variations of the gambit which, after many decades in pubs, I am well familiar with. It proves you're not a pompous twit, the Houdini blow, and thus have the upper hand in the discourse. (MYOEP).
It strikes me when I contemplate the ubiquity of the attempted trick in relation to other aspects of life that MYOEP is a far bigger problem than is generally realised.
It gives the fullest scope to self-indulgent vanity. One might easily see why habitual practitioners of MYOEP seek to undermine a religion which makes pride the deadliest of all sins. (Errors).
Young, simple-minded ladies usually content themselves with "'cos!!!!!".
