Bread and cheese, staples of life.

Bread may be the staff of life, but without cheese it's just a staff, not a staple. There are so many ways to enjoy this classic combo. What are your favourites? I like a simple lunch of crusty baguette, a selection of cheese, some grapes, and perhaps a bit of dry sausage...very Franche...I also adore light, thin-crust pizza with a few vegetables, but not overloaded with toppings. Grilled cheese also comes to mind, and Welsh Rarebit.

This week I've been indulging in lazy fondue. Slice cheese (swiss, gruyere, edam) as thick as you dare, arrange on bread and slide under the broiler for about two minutes.

Decadent and easy.

Prefer some Gouda or Edam with a nice glass of red wine and maybe some fruit. You can have my bread. There's nothing wrong with bread but heck, there's wine and cheese to be had here. Wink

Pepperoni & cheese pizza.
Macaroni and cheese (homemade).
Crusty sourdough and Cambozola.

One of my favorite late night snacks is to throw some grated cheddar or jack onto a tortilla and melt it in the microwave, spread on a little chipotle sauce and roll it up.

I haven't made a real fondue in a while. I do enjoy it though, with just a little green salad on the side. I used to have the whole fondue set, but I gave it my brother who of course, never learned to cook. Rolling Eyes

Funny story...when my folks were dating, my dad wasn't as food savvy as he is now. My mom decided to make beef fondue, very trendy at the time. My dad had no idea that you had to take the beef off the fork before eating it, and burned his mouth to the point of slapstick comedy.

That wasn't quite as interesting as their first date, but kitchen disasters really deserve their own thread.

cjhsa, I love making mac and cheese. I like it with roasted garlic and fresh rosemary, but the wife can't handle rosemary, so I generally do a pseudo-traditional version, with an interesting selection of cheese, three minimum. I made some nice chipotle salsa last week and cooked up a snack of toasted baguette with the salsa and some aged cheddar. Simple but really tasty.

I fully support Kraft...after all, good ol' Bob owns the World Champion Patriots.

I'm not a fan of most foods with cheese on it. Bread and cheese isn't a Slappy staple.
