I've only read a bit of this thread and, confusingly, somewhat agree with all of you.

I think to sit something over there is not a phrase I'd use, but I'm a sloppy talker and word player and maybe I would sit the bear in the corner. People do that with their children many times for time-outs. More likely, I'd crumple his nose in a beehive. (kidding, kidding)

I would also site it, or I would situate it, or put it there.
