Little late to tell you this now, cjhsa, but Spybot has a "restore" function which might have saved you a little grief, if in fact a Spybot change caused your problem. You open Spybot, click "Restore", undo your latest changes, then rescan and disable them one at a time until you figure out which one was the problem. I dunno if that helps, but it might be of use to you in the future.
