Crashed the Caravan

Hi,

Recently I crashed my '93 Dodge Caravan and I'm trying to think of the cheapest way to fix it. My plan was to buy a cheap car on autotrader, take out the parts and put them into my caravan.

I found a 1991 Plymouth Voyager for $400 and someone told me it's parts will fit in my 1993 Dodge Caravan, can anyone verify this?

btw, the parts I need are rad, fan, hood, bumper, grill, and seat.

Any input would be welcome

Thanks,
Adam

Why not go to an auto wreckers. You can strip vehicles on the lot for reasonable prices.

The 91 parts should bolt up (though there may be cosmetic differences). However, Ceili has a good point.

for a '93 Caravan, cosmetic isn't an issue.

Yeah, I'm not worried about the cosmetics at all. I'm just wondering if the rad from the Voyager will fit in my Caravan.

I can probably haggle the Voyager down to $350, then strip it and sell it to a wrecker for $100 so it would only cost $250 total. I don't know how much wreckers charge for parts but I'm guessing it would cost slightly more.(CDN funds btw)

Thanks for the replies!

AdamB,

Used radiators can be very "crumbly". Check the fins by rubbing your finger down them. The rad may look good, but may be disentegrating.

I suggest this because I owned a 1989 Caravan and put 240,000 miles on it and 1991 Caravan - 180,000.

I always went to the wreckers to buy parts. I don't think it would be more expensive than buying a whole other car and even if it was $50 more, at least you don't have to get rid of the parts you aren't going to use.

To be honest, if you're going to pay $350 for another car, just save up another $150 and buy a good used car. Sell the Voyager to the wreckers and still get some $$ for it. Bets spending all that time trying to fix a used car and your costs after all is said and done will be about the same.

I don't think I can get a decent used car for like $800 CDN. I don't have to pay for labour so the job shouldn't cost that much money. The caravan is in good shape too, I mean it was until I crashed it. It only had 160kms and it was reliable. If I sold it to a wrecker now I'd probably only get like $150 for it.

Thanks for the tip BillyFalcon, I'll check that.

Anyone know if a '91 Voyager rad will fit in a '93 Caravan?

The 91 radiator for either usually has an outlet on the left hand side. In 1993 the radiator design was changed in both the Caravan and the Voyager so I'm not sure that it will. I could be wrong though.

Make sure to have a used radiator pressure tested. Also, make sure the trans cooler inside it is not leaking.

Are you sure the Caravans/Voyagers Radiators were changed?

Caravan Changes Year to Year

Voyager Changes Year to Year

I just want to make sure because I was going to go and buy a Voyager today
