It can work, but laptop processors are made to run with less power to improve battery life and reduce heat load. You may find that your laptop will overheat with a desktop cpu.

@126arif,
Hello Friends,
No, the processors designed for laptops run at lower voltages than those in desktop computers. Also the desktop Processors are physically larger than the laptop processors and require larger heat sinks and fans.

@126arif,
Hello Members,
Some laptop cpus are the same as desktop ones but these are less common but most aren't. They have different pin configurations, even if they are the same manufacturer. Then theres the wattage laptop cpus have lower wattage ratings to save power so even if the cpu from a desktop fits it may not have enough power from the motherboard to power it. Then theres BIOS issues again to do with power but also to do with power management (throttling of cpu for example) the BIOS may not support the cpu. Then some cpus are soldered to the motherboard to make them more durable as laptops are more likely to be carted about so soldering a cpu is possible but can mean you end up with a very expensive paper weight. So it is possible but unlikely that a desktop cpu will fit a laptop

@126arif,
No, you may not because processor design for laptop meets a specific criteria that doesn't match to desktop. Components of laptop are designed to make it run faster, portable & certainly we can move it to from one place to other.
