That's the trouble with English, there are so many ways of saying things.

The context (and the surrounding text) will determine which one of these is best.

For now, you can't go far wrong with (a).

I agree, but someone I know uses b regularly, which I somehow think is a bit off kilter, but don't know exactly why. I guess there's nothing technically wrong with it, tho?

"He awakes" is a bit poetic.
"He wakes up" is far more common.
