Ya'll heard of this?

Some of the Occupy dudes came up with the idea of buying up people's debt... and forgiving it. Interestingly, this carries with it no taxable burden, the way one would if the debt was forgiven.

Neat idea - I just donated $20 and paid off $400 of someone's medical debt. I encourage you to pitch in a buck or two.
