Infamous 'Z movie' director/alleged auteur Edward D. Wood Jr.'s birthday is today. If he were alive, he'd be a spritely 88 years old.

Best known as one of the WORST film directors of ALL TIME, do you have a favorite/least favorite Ed Wood's film/cinematic nightmare?

@tsarstepan,
Plan 9 from Outer Space is supposed to be the worst film ever made. MST3K mocked a bunch of his stuff - one which, in the Ed Wood film, was recreated with Sarah Jessica Parker.

@jespah,
Ironically (is it a case of irony?), Ed Wood is my favorite Tim Burton film. I've seen several MST3k takes on Wood's so called filmography including Plan 9.

@tsarstepan,
I like the Ed Wood film, too (I am generally not a fan of Burton, but that film is a hoot).

And the film I was trying to remember was Bride of the Monster.

Tor is such a hoot by himself alone.

Bad movies start with bad writing. A screenplay by Ed Wood, Jr. titled "Venus Flytrap" was filmed in 1967 and not released until 1970. It was an American-Japanese coproduction with much of it filmed near Tokyo. I came across it after following Tsarstepan's thread on RiffTrax.

It was re-titled "The Revenge of Doctor X" by mistake because it was released together with a horror film from the Phillipines. The distributors erroneously used credits from the wrong film.

In addition to maneating plants, the movie throws in volcanos, a hunchback dwarf, and topless female pearl divers.

One of the most hilarious gaffes in motion picture history is when Wood used unrelated footage of Bela Lugosi (dead by then) so he could credit him for the film. When he needed new footage, he used his wife's chiropractor (don't recall the name), who looks like some kind of blond surfer. A truly incredible film.
