@carolgreen145,
War is never impressive.

If you mean the most deaths in our own soil, then it's simply the civil war, the union against the confederates. In some families brother against brother and in some father against son.

The most impressive war was the one we did not engage at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

@carolgreen145,
No war is "impressive".
Especially not for the civilians on whose soil wars are fought.
It is tragic we still resort to such primitive practices in the 21st century.

The Aroostook War, also known as the Pork and Beans War. It was an undeclared war between England and the United States in 1838-39, over the border between Maine and New Brunswick. Nobody was killed, although there were a few hundred deaths from disease--all too common in wars at that time. There were no battles--Winfield Scott was sent to Maine to make sure nobody shot anyone else, and Daniel Webster negotiated a border settlement with the English.

There were, though, some spectaclar fights between the lumberjacks on both sides of the border, or so we are told.

That was my thinking exactly. If more wars were like that, only with better medical care, it would be a much different world.

@Setanta,
I was thinking of The Pig War. A confrontation in 1859 in the San Juan Islands between the United States and the British Empire over the boundary between the US and British North America.

It seemed a large black pig escaped and ate the neighbor’s spuds. It wasn't the first time and the pig was dispatched. The problem was that the pig had crossed the border between the US and Canada established by the 1846 Treaty of Oregon.

The war consisted of two military attachments standing chest to chest with feathers ruffled. The only casualty was the pig and it was delicious.

@raprap,
I think the War on Poverty is our most impressive achievement in battle. Weve probably killed a lot of poor people before, but now, with focusing our many resources on the mission, we are killing poor folks by the thousands

Well, that leaves out the American Civil War--most of the dead people in that war, hundreds of thousands, were white. It leaves out the War of 1812 and the Mexican War, too.

@carolgreen145,
The most impressive war, in terms of it's lasting consequences, was the American Revolutionary War--the American War of Independence.
