I have a Desktop Computer with a printer. There is paper in the printer. However, when I give a print command I receive an "out of paper message." Why? Solution?

Power printer off. Leave for 5 minutes. Check paper loaded correctly. If paper out warning still present, suspect a faulty paper sensor.

@gollum,
Depends on the printer but here are a few things to look at.

1) Does the printer have multiple input trays? If the printer is looking for paper from tray two and you have paper in tray one, you will get "out of paper". Look for a "feed" switch or button on the front of the printer. Most multi-function printers have the option to feed from different sources.

2) Maybe the feed tray is not making the contact switch. Unload the paper and reload it making sure it is all the way back in the tray.

3) Remove the paper and add different paper. It could be the top page you have in there has a crease or bend and is not making the switch.

@gollum,
Is there a paper jam?

Does the printer go through the cycle of trying to print before the out of paper message appears?

Did you clear the out of paper message when you refilled the paper tray? Usually, just opening the cover and shutting it again will do that.

If none of the suggestions above work, give us more details about the printer such as brand and model and whether it is an inkjet or laser printer.
