@The Smart Money,
The only reason I played SM was to prove that point. I'm glad I did because I got watching some of the games. 3 a weekend. That helped me fit a few more pieces into the jigsaw of American life. I've nearly finished Hofstadter, Aaron and Miller's giant compendium on the history of a republic. That is a lot of pieces. CBS News, Fox News (isn't that embarrassing), the music channels and this site. I don't go on any other sites. I like scenes of your vast empty wilderness. I know there are people there to hold the camera but as long as there are none in view it's okay. Scenes where people are in view usually make me laugh. I tend to fit their faces to names I know on here. I had wande nearly right before I saw his grinning mush displayed for all the world to see. I've seen pictures of osso too. And rjb. Oh--and ci. He daren't play on here but he predicted I would finish near the bottom and I won the Title two years in succession. For which I claim no credit. He also advised selling gold at $1,450. I saw fm too. Nothing at all like his avatar. He once predicted the result of a game the day after it was played. What I mean is that he told us he had predicted the result before the game but only informed us the day after. Whether he would have told us if he had predicted incorrectly is not a matter I can safely adjudicate on. I could bet on it but, like with God, it would be unprovable.
I couldn't help feeling when watching the games why the US puts so much sporting energy into what are now provincial activities and thus starve funds from those sports which the rest of the world prefers to play. No American in the last four of the tennis. Golfers slipping down the rankings. Boxers too. The greatest nation on earth struggling to qualify for the knock-out stages of the World Cup.
Our racehorse trainers popping over for a pay day without much reciprocation.
I'm a bit down in the mouth though because rjb didn't pm me this year. I think Tico might have slipped the sliding tackle in on him.
Using the spreads was the only way to go. Then the players would all be in a heap around .500 and glued to their TV sets for every point scored, tackle missed, fumbles and conversion kicks.
