Let me first say I am so excited to have stumbled upon this site! I'm an artist masquerading as a polisci major and I didnt realize how much I missed it until I took an art history class. So now, I'm back in art mode...These forums are great. That said, here's what Im posting about:
In an art history class this semester I was introduced to the works of Paul Modersohn-Becker. Her work, and her life, seemed really fascinating to me and Ive been combing the internet for information about her. Unfortunately though, I dont read German, the language of her official museum online. I was wondering if there were any good archives online of her works, maybe a site in english I may have missed about her life and if there were any US museums exibiting her work. I've ordered a book of her writings through amazon, but I'm not a patient person
Also, what are your thoughts on her work? I love the earthiness of it, the warmth even if it isnt stereotypically 'beautiful' and I love the folk art aspect of some of her peices. All in all, I guess I am just struck by the irony of her death- in childbirth- when motherhood was one of her favorite themes. I think its fascinating that she was an artist and a wife at a time when that wasnt common, and considered a leader in the german expressionist movement even though her life was so short.
Any thoughts?
thanks, I'll try that out!
