@Romeo Fabulini,
Though it's from 1928 we won't quibble...
a huge influence in country music.

@panzade,
Yeah I've been meaning to ask why this thread is only 40's to 60's country music?
Surely music is timeless?

Here's a section from a great BBC documentary on Country Music history.
This episode tracks the end of the Jimmy Rodgers era and the switch from 78s to radio and the emergence of the singing brothers.

My title ought to have been 30s - 70s, I realized too late.

@edgarblythe,
I agree because after 1979 it's pretty bleak...but, it's all good

@panzade,
Not saying today's country isn't okay. But that's another thread, in my opinion.

@edgarblythe,
I'm playing today's country...every weekend. It's just rock & roll really.

I'm no expert, but good country seemed to fizzle out after Johnny Cash died. I've looked up some present-day country "stars" on youtube and although they've mostly got great voices, they're let down by their bland material which all sounds the same, maybe there's a shortage of good songwriters nowadays, I dunno

I could go on naming some favorites from the modern era - I just was not concentrated on them in this thread.

Ray Price

Hello Dear Friends,
So many of you have requested an update on Ray. Please forgive me for being so long in getting back to you.
Ray is still in the hospital and still in the ICU UNIT.
Ray is stable now. He is alert and talking to me and all of his Doctors and is aware of everything happening around him.
Thank The Good Lord, Rays SEPSIS is totally cleared up now. All culture results came back Negative! .
So why are we still in the ICU?
Rays Team Of Doctors have all told me that he is suffering from a Multiplicity Of Conditions brought on by the pancreatic cancer and the previous cancer treatments he underwent last year. The Sepsis infection has thrown him into Acute Kidney Failure. This has caused another buildup of fluid around his lungs.
Dialysis was started but his blood pressure dropped too low and heart rate much too high from the rapid fluid removal.
He was switched to CVHD. This way the fluid is removed slowly, gently and continually over a much longer period of time.
That's the reason why we have to remain in ICU.

Ray Price was a terrific ballad singer; one of the best ever.
I'm posting this medley in honor of his tenure on the Grand Ol' Opry.

Ray always had great pedal steel and fiddle on his songs, in this case Don Helms(steel)and Tommy Jackson on fiddle.

BTW ...looks like Ray and the blonde are gonna hook up after the show...steamy

I saw Ray in the mid 60s, in San Antonio. I love both the early songs and the ones later with an orchestra.

To my shame I have to admit I'd never heard of Ray (and many other country singers) because as far as I know they never had a smash hit "signature song".
The moral is:- get at least one big smash to make yourself a household name for the rest of your life..Smile
PS- that blonde was definitely not my type, i prefer seeing natural hairstyles on women, not ones that have been messed with by being artificially dyed, permed, chopped, tweaked and lacquered..Smile
