Willie is one of the most beloved country artists ever. I saw him perform at the houston rodeo some years back.

This was written by Willie Nelson, but Faron Young recorded the version I always heard when it was new.

The first #1 song by a female artist. This is Kitty's reply to Hank Thompson's "Wild Side Of Life"

@panzade,
Here's one for a hard working fellah with a woman for a boss.

I think it's country.

Let's not omit Dean Martin's My Rifle, My Pony, And Me.

When JIm Reeves started out, he did songs called Bimbo and Mexican Joe. I did not really admire his records until he recorded this one.

Hank Thompson had a very long career. Here, he does Jack Guthrie and Woody's song

@edgarblythe,
Hank looks a bit soppy to me in that manifestation. Like he's not about to take an unnecessary risks with the matrons who supervise our morals.

@spendius,
Hank may have played a lot of bars, but his image was otherwise squeaky clean.

@roger,
Ray is on my list. His Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music is to me one of the finest albums ever recorded.

The first time I heard this recording I dropped everything and went straight to the record store to get my copy. Then I found the album and also bought it. Ain't nothing better than this

I never understood why Hank Williams used the alter ego Luke The Drifter, but here is one he released under that name

@edgarblythe,
Brenda Lee was my favorite singer of the day - a real firecracker. This song Sweet Nothing really rocked out for the late '50s early to '60s. Loved her energy, too. She crossed over genres to Rock & Roll from Country but in those days there wasn't so much of a cross-over at all. Great bold sax licks in here, too!

The classic torch song Break It To Me Gently

This one still brings tears to my eyes. All Alone Am I

I was in love with Brenda Lee. Oh well. She married a local guy that I believe worked at a gas station. Don't take it for true, because I write from memory that goes back to the late 50s or early 60s.
