Australia's online newspaper "The Age" features a Civil Administrative Tribunal hearing over whether Islam is illegal under the law. A Christian group argues that, because the Koran preaches violence, it is an illegal religion while Christianity deserves special protection under the Australian Constitution:
Quote:Islam was an illegal religion because the Koran preached violence against Christians and Jews, a Christian group told a judge yesterday.
The group's barrister, David Perkins, said that Christianity was established under Australia's constitution and had special protection, especially through the blasphemy law.
Mr Perkins told the Victorian and Civil Administrative Tribunal that if the state's new religious hatred law intended to fetter the teaching of Christian doctrine it was invalid.

I would think under that law all religion should be outlawed. Since each preaches that the other is false.
This will probably end up in the waste basket.

From exactly where did you get this, au? (I've only read the
"Version as at 1 January 2002" and might have missed something.)

Quote:The Koran contradicts Christian doctrine in a number of places and, under the blasphemy law, is therefore illegal," he said.
I would assume from this that all religions violate the blasphemy laws.
Well, okay, that's the group's barrister's, David Perkins, opinion and that's why they to court.
What a heap of crap! Just going to see what nuts tried that one.
They are based in Toronto!
have they tried this anywhere else?
