I would not have guessed that Hugh Laurie ("House") and Linus Roach ("Law & Order") were British. They both do an "American accent" extremely well.

@firefly,
You didn't go through Fry & Laurie or Jeeves & Wooster.

@izzythepush,
Those are funny. Laughing

I wasn't aware of any of Laurie's previous work before I saw him on "House". But I'm glad "House" occasionally gave him a chance to display some of his musical talent.
Just last week, I caught a "House" re-run with this musical dream sequence.

@firefly,
I bet he loved that. He's always been known primarily for comedy, but he is a bit of a renaissance man. He reminds me of Dudley Moore.

@Frank Apisa,
Have you also noticed that with precious few exceptions when Brit singers warble, they sound like Americans?

Notable exceptions: Peter Noone, Ray Davies and Chungabunga.

Not only does Adele sound American she sounds African-American.

@Finn dAbuzz,
Singing tends to relinquish most accents. Unless of course you need them. I love to hear the affected country vocals. You know some of those folks have just put that twang on like a coat.
But I guess whatever sells records.

@izzythepush,
Neither is it true of 'The Only Band That Matters.'

This is one of my favourites, originally from Sandanista!

Izzy, Firefly, Finn, Mismi—everyone else from earlier, lots of good stuff. I thank you all a bunch for your interest and postings..

David Harewood, who plays David Estes, Carrie Mathison’s bosses boss in the CIA in SHO’s Homeland, was a surprise for me. His American accent is exceptional. Never suspected for a moment.

@Frank Apisa,
The thing is, we know they're ours because we've seen them on our stuff before.
This is him as Friar Tuck.

Wow!

I'm not a big fan of Olivia Colman, but she knocked that Canadian accent out of the park. My guess is she could also play a part in the Fargo series...because the Canadian accent has a relationship with the accents used by the folk in that series.
