The price of flowers

I went to the local flower shop today to buy myself some flowers since I don't have someone in my life at this time to buy them for me. Now I use to do this once in awhile when I was living in Mass and was between relationship and I use to get a dozen roses for a little over $20. Now, I've been in Canada for almost 4 years now and this was the first time I decided to treat myself to some flowers. I walk into the flower shop not intending to spend more than $10, so I figured $10 would get me about 4 roses. Boy was I wrong! They wanted $20 for 4 freaking roses!!!!! I had to have the price repeated because I could believe what I was hearing. I told the guy that $20 for 4 flowers was insane, but I still wanted flowers, so I asked him to throw me something together for $10 and I got 3 carnations out of the deal Shocked

It's been a while since I've bought flowers and am wondering if the price's are like this everywhere. What do you pay for flowers in your area?

Montana, I guess we're much closer to the growers, so I bought a dozen long-stemmed red roses for my wife today for $20 from a street vendor. I know that's a great deal, because I used to do bookkeeping for a local florist, and she charged $90 about 20 years ago (mayabe longer) on valentines day. Wink

Yup, that's what I figured. I was truly beside myself today. For what I got for $10 today I would have paid $2 for it over there. I told my son today that on these occations he's best to buy his girl jewelry, cloths or electronics, LOL!

I "took" (picture was taken at the greenhouse at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco) these yesterday, so they're still fresh.http://photothru.com/photo_filedb1/A5/58/29/A55829/viewable/A55829_131CA1636F71_1.jpg

Even when you factor in the difference in the dollar, it still seems that there are a lot of goods in Canada that are more expensive than in the U.S.A. And then you have the misfortune to be in an area of Canada that I understand has one of the highest costs of living. Is that true? I've heard that people in the maritimes end up paying more because it costs that much more to ship things out there. But flowers are expensive all over.

I've only received roses once in my life. *sigh* I may not be a girly girl in a lot of ways, but getting flowers....I dunno, there is just something romantic about it. Not that I'd want them all the time, mind you. I like the idea of keeping it special. Smile

Dearest Montana,

I uploaded a bouquet for you to the Members' Gallery. Don't know how to post it here. Perhaps someone else can? Anyway, I hope you enjoy them. I didn't know what your favorite color or flower is, so I got a little of everything for you.

Hope you've had a lovely day!

There are some things that are more expensive here, but there are also many things that are cheaper, so it kind of evens out. Land and homes are two of the things that are much cheaper.

Ohhhh!!!! Chambord. That stuff is awesome. I haven't had it in a very long time and now I'm wondering if they sell it here.

Hell, if they do, it's probably $50 a bottle, lol!
