Give this one a shot, and let us know how it works.
******************************************
Here is a math trick so unbelievable that it will stump you.
Personally I would like to know who came up with this and why that
person is not running the country.
1. Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your head)
2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code)
3. Multiply by 80
4. Add 1
5. Multiply by 250
6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number
7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.
8. Subtract 250
9. Divide number by 2
Do you recognize the answer?
Phone # is abc-defg
((abc * 80 )+1) * 250 = 2000 * abc + 250
2000 * abc + 250 + defg + defg - 250 = 2000*abc + 2* defg
divide by 2... 1000 * abc + defg = abc,defg
Wow.
A cupie doll for Seal Poet!
Thx, c.i.
VERY INTERESTING, BUT I LIKE IT.
Sorry to point this out, but it should be
10000*abc+defg not 1000*abc+defg
These things started to annoy me when I realized they're all just algebraic sleight-of-hand. When you work it all out, it becomes clear that someone just did a bunch of things to a variable, and then un-did them all. After that it's just not impressive anymore.
1. ..
2. 100a+10b+c (i.e., "abc")
3. 8000a+800b+80c
4. 8000a+800b+80c+1
5. 2000000a+200000b+20000c+250
6. 2000000a+200000b+20000c+250+1000d+100e+10f+g
7. 2000000a+200000b+20000c+250+2000d+200e+20f+2g
8. 2000000a+200000b+20000c+2000d+200e+20f+2g
9. 1000000a+100000b+10000c+1000d+100e+10f+g (i.e., "abcdefg")
im sorry to ruin this but i dont understand the answer i recieved from the calculator the answer read 10146 could someone please tell me
Markr/ Whim your assistance is required. Please, O.K. Pretty please.
The "secret" has already been revealed. Perhaps a mistake was made while entering the data. If riddlemeree's phone number is 001-0146 (which doesn't seem valid), then it worked. The calculator won't display leading zeros.
wow thats really cool, i love this riddle
