Oooh, it's those small things that can be the most galling, though.

I'm trying to figure out exactly what a "layby" is... It seems akin to a "layaway", but that term, here, means something that you want but you have them hold it for you until you (decide whether you want to buy it/ get enough money to buy it/ comparison shop a bit more/ whatever), and then you pay in full when you've decided to buy it.

A "layby" seems to be some sort of paying for it in increments... if I have that much right, do you have it in your possession when the increments start or when you've paid the full amount?

You receive the goods after they are paid for in full.

Don't you guys have it?

Oh man! I have bought most of the really nice things I own that way!

Lol! It was more pig ignorance, I think.

I really think they had NO idea that their behaviour was questionable.

Strange....

Also...she was BRILLIANT at her job otherwise....

I wanted a skirt, and she picked a couple, that I would have rejected out of hand, saying "They will look great on you"

They did...perfect.....

I have been looking for skirts all season....and the only ones that I have liked ahve been too heavy.

Same with other stuff....she just brought stuff that was perfect, size, everything.

No idea? Well, good business dealings with valued customers, for a start. That tends to increase profits!

Actually, it is sociologically interesting.

This is a VERY wealthy person's shopping centre.

It is where I grew up, so I do not get intimidated by them, but I think my Saturday morning garb, the fact that I use layby, and so on, has made the new owner peg me in a "not desirable customer" mould to some extent.

The woman was actually being patronizing, which I considered an oddish, but very interesting, phenomenon.

I decided to take on the "game" as it were, and inserted hints that the peg hole was not correct, just to stir the pot a bit.

The previous owners were not like that, or knew a person who WAS a good customer, despite clearly not being rich.

I kind of enjoyed the contest today.

But, as in Pretty Woman, I expected a little subtle grovelling....not the full Monte, but SOME!

Oh, I figured that out, Deb! Laughing

But let's not muck around here! Tell us what actually you bought! That's what we all want to know! Design, cut, colour, etc, etc .....Very Happy Cool

I like this story. I like the way you played it, Deb. I want to hear more. Hell, it's as good as an episode of Neighbours!

Bet you have, Deb, but you just don't want to own up! Razz

What caused my grimace today?: The front page of my the local paper. There we were, a BIG photograph of my neighbours & me, standing in the street looking very grim! A huge heading, which said: Locals' Lane Fury. (We've been conducting a residents' action against the local council ... long story)

Then, on second thoughts, I saw the funny side!

(I mean: Locals' Lane Fury! Ha! Laughing )

Hope it gives the council a good fright! Twisted Evil

Sounds quite a grin moment, really, Olga! And 15 minutes of fame, if you haven't already had them. What's with the lane thing anyway?!

A really long story, Clary. Basically we look like have an unreasonable amount of through traffic coming through my nice, quiet little street as a result of the council endorsing a proposal for redevelopment of a certain large building nearby. Our objection was towards insufficient limitations to entry & exit points to the place (not the redevelopment).... They basically couldn't disagree with what we were saying, but didn't make the changes we asked for. Said that they might, later, if we turned out to be correct! We put in a lot of work, really had a good case, but they'd basically made up their minds to disregard any objections beforehand. (I loath pretend processes, where the outcome has already been decided! Evil or Very Mad ) Anyway, the local rag decided to cover the story, & there we were on the front page today, looking very determined & p'd off! (a posed photograph, of course! Laughing )

Actually, I've had a few lots of 15 minutes of fame, prior to this particular episode, Clary.

Now that would make me grimace!
The weather is making me grimace today, leaden skies and needing the light on. Yuk.
