Hmm, I've read today that stem cell researchers plan to create rabbit-human embryos.

I just dont get the avoidance, thats the part that bothers me. Why not just hang out, laid-back, no fuss (or hanky-panky) like before, if anything beyond that is only skin-deep anyway? Thatd be cool, anyway...

Yeah, the avoidance is annoying. Have you talked to her about that? Laid out that a relationship with her is not actually something you aspire to, and that she can relax already?

This might be a little stinging for her -- depending on how you handle it -- but sounds like it could be an appropriate "get over yourself" corrective.

The commute did it again.... I've decided to have a number system to rate my commute. There are 6 trouble spots where I am likely to get ticked off. I need names for those. Today, 3 of the 6 spots were awful. Not real bad, but not great!

What is the no 1 trouble spot, k? Do tell.
And is this commute by car or public transport?

Car commute.

I go through 3 rotaries (traffic circles, round-abouts) which seem to puzzle people even though they are all over the boston area. There was actually an accident at one, yesterday, AS I was going around it.

There's a very intersection with traffic light, the kind where way too many cars go through it than should, at which is a hardware store and package store (beer, wine, liquor) as well as several restaurants. About 60% of the people driving through that intersection want to turn left, so city planners cleared the curbside of legal parking spaces - allowing those who wish to go straight a way around the left turners. I have almost never seen that go-around-the-left-turners lane free of people parking illegally.

Just down the street is a hairy intersection. Two lanes form at the intersection, one clearly marked straight and left (really immediate left or eventual left), one right only. I go straight (eventual left), many people go left. I wait until right-turning traffic has cleared from the right turn lane and than go around the lefties to go straight (eventual left). But, many other get into the right lane to go straight (eventual left). Those people then try to cut back into the eventual left turning crowd, blocking those who wish to go right.

Those are the worst and they are all packed into about 1.5 miles of roadway.

Think of tax as charity. It takes from the not-completely-destitute and gives to ... well, some of it goes to the even poorer, at least in Britain it does. It helps to ease the burden if you feel it is going to improve the lives of those worse off than yourself.

Any movement on friend front, Msolga? I hope so.

I had an experience in a garment shop today...it is kind of funny, and kind of grimacy.

This shop has been a favourite of mine for years now, and I have spent a fortune there.

The previous proprietor knew that I spent a lot, used layby a lot, sometimes took a long time to pay the layby off, but always did. So...they never hassled me about anything.

A few years ago, the shop was taken over by a woman I have never liked, but the stuff was still good, so I kept coming.

Once, I had quite a big layby there, and my car was stolen, costing me thousands.

I had a call about the layby, explained the situation, and the staff member, who knew me, said not to worry.

I paid steadily, then got a call from the owner (on my machine) that was frankly rude.

I went in, explained again, offered to cancel the layby and lose my deposit......and said that, if they didn't want me to do this, it would take about 3 months to finish the layby. Staff person said it was fine.

More rude calls...so I paid the thing, and did not shop there for quite a while, then gradually went back.

Recently, I had another largeish layby, and went in to pay it off this afternoon.

I was in the cubicle trying on a skirt whern I heard the assistant talking on the phone to her boss, asking if there was anything administration wise she should be doing, since it was quiet.

I hear her obviously being told to chase up laybys...then my name is read out with a long list of other names ... clearly folk whose layby is due.

I am thinking is is TRES uncool to be yelling out people's names in the middle of a shop....but, hey...

Then, I hear my name mentioned loudly several times......"Oh, XXXX, she always does this, does she? Never pays on time?...and so on and on. I decidsed this was too much...but I was still kind of amused. (Money stuff has no impact on my sense of self esteem or anything...)

I decided to let the assistant know who I was to avoid embarrassment for her.......and so she begins discussing OTHER people's paying habits at the top of her voice to the boss instead...using names....by now a number of customers are there....

So, when I went out to pay, I decided to give feedback re the rudeness of discussing customers negatively when other customers are hearing the whole thing....especially since the shopping centre concerned would have lots of people with connections to other shoppers...

So...I am not angry, but I expect an acknowledgement of the rudeness and some sort of awkwardness, or apology.

Nope.....assistant says "oh yes" or some such, and doesn't look at me, and just keeps processing my money.

I get stubborn. I explain clearly why the behaviour has been untoward.

"I didn't know it was you" says assistant....I explain that not knowing who is who, and who knows who, is one of the very reasons the behaviour is untoward.

Assistant then very casually blames boss..."She was at the market and it was hard for her to hear".

I then said that the BOSS needs a lesson in manners...and so on.

No apology, no acknowledgement of rude behaviour....

Oh well, 'tis a small thing.
