@Joe Nation,

It was not a good weekend, folks, for the first time in twenty years, my back went out.

Sorry to read about this.

There's an order to them? Oh, you mean red, white and then blue. My pain moments usually start with white...although that may be the tears.

You mean to say Christine Quinn was nearby?

I am walking again. It's a funny walk, but it's a walk.
Well put. As long as you are ambulatory you're doing fine.

Can't say as how I'd understand why you'd place your back on the road, whether by Wednesday or any other day. (maybe it's one of those new marathon requirements)

Attempted jokes aside, hope you are back to running and feeling right again by the weekend (at the latest).

Actually, my back has been on the living room carpet several times a day doing the SSSSSLLLLOOOOWWW exercises I learned the last time this happened.

(The last time I was in bed for six days and then had to go downstairs on my behind in order to share in a Thanksgiving dinner.

Six weeks of massage and Feldenkrais followed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feldenkrais_Method)

If you are not familiar with Feldenkrais, but you have chronic pain, find out about it. I studied yoga for a long time back in the 1980s, Feldenkrais is like doing yoga but, instead of concentrating on your breath...you become aware of exactly how your body is moving and the differences between your left and right sides.

You know you are unbalanced, Feldenkrais leads you to the exact location of the unbalance.

So,
I am grateful for the condition my condition is in.

Joe(no matter its condition)Nation

Eleven days to go. Nov 4th, David.... .

Here's the update: I took yesterday off of work, loafed, did my exercises, took my Naproxen (sp?) and then got out and walked around a bit until it started to drizzle.

I feel fine.
A little stiffness which goes away as I walk....I am going to try a little trot tonight after I get home. (Yes...I am at work.)

Here's how I am thinking: nothing is going to stop me.

I may take about as long to run my fifth marathon as the walkers from England did last year.

don't
care

I've been thinking about wearing something on my back which says:
~~~~Encourage~~~~
~~~~a~~~~~~
~~~~~~Struggling~~~~
~~~~~~Runner~~~~~
~~~~~~~Today.~~~~~~
Some may think I am talking about myself but that's not true.
@ehBeth,
How was the tiny trot? Tiny.
Without incident.
Without repercussions.
Or illusions.
So,
now eight day and 23 hours before I get to the start.
I've been doing the Advil and Exercise routine now this whole week and, except for a little early morning stiffness, I am my old self again. (I was hoping for a new self to arrive but, no, still the same mug in the mirror again this morning.
Depending on the weather ~ Hey, I should check the 10 day forecast, right~~ I will get some miles in on Saturday and Sunday....I want to run the last six miles of the route. It's a tradition with me now.
Sunday is the Pre-Marathon Five Mile but I don't like doing that race as much as I did a few years ago. VERY crowded,,,,,just what I do not need is for someone to step on my heel about two miles out.
I may run it unofficially behind everyone else....that way it will feel just like it will on Marathon Day when I am starting behind the 60000 runners in front of me.
That's going to be fun. Really.
Joe(I run so slow because I want people to be able to have a long memory of me going by.)Nation
@Joe Nation,
Yay, JoeN.
Remember (you may have to look it up), your first marathon writing made me cry when you were getting to the finish. In a good way. Tears down the face.
You probably know I've long liked sports writing, was sort of weaned on it as a teen in a new place who read a lot. The reason I follow sports all these decades later is still the stories. Your diary writing is really good.
This is old old info, but I remember runners world columnists saying you lose muscle tone (or tons, eh) after three weeks. Or was it three days? Think it was three days. You seem to be handling this smartly. You're going to be fine. You'll be calm, whatever your speed numbers.
I (we who follow you and Thomas) could use the info link on how we can track you. I bet we already have it, checking the NYC marathon with your numbers, right? (Don't have Thomas's yet.)
@ossobuco,
Could you or Joe link it, cause I'm also interested in reading Joe's first marathon.
I'd like to try running a full marathon one day.
