We r not likely to find that out during this Earthly lifetime.

With his girlfriend serving to drive his getaway car,
its not likely that he intended to end his life there.
I suspect that he was
HOPING for
unarmed victims who support gun control
inhabiting his targeted premises.
( I will confess to a daydream of years past
that when the Charlie Manson Gang burst in on Sharon Tate's cocktail party,
that some of the attenders had been
gun-lovers who brought out
their defensive ordnance to welcome them to the party with a 7 gun salute
[instead of having been helpless,
obaying the gun control laws, as thay were]. )

Well, we know of at least 1 Mensan who was convicted of murder.
I understand that he freely admits his guilt.

Id select a shotgun with a "defense" load (1 slug and 4 (00) shot).
I concede the functional value of shotguns for home defense,
especially when cut down to the legal limits, for convenient use.
In my own ideosyncratic sentiments, I am not a shotgun person.
I don 't own a shotgun. I 've only fired them on relatively few occasions.
For many years, for home defense, I relied primarily on the .3O caliber M-1 Carbine
(obviously, semi-automatic) with alternating rounds softpoint and military copperjacketed
ammunition, loaded in 3O round bananna magazines,
but there came a time that I was dissatisfied with how ofen
thay jammed during target practice. Thay lost my confidence.
I now rely upon a .44 special Taurus Model 445 stainless steel mirror revolver
loaded with hollowpointed slugs with
W I D E cavities.
Some years ago, it became necessary to have defensive recourse
to this piece, in very low light conditions at night,
when someone took a shot at me. Its reflective quality caused
an
in terrorem effect, resulting in the perps swiftly leaving the area,
without my expending any ammunition. The actual gun is more
silvery reflective than shown in the posted picture. About 4O or 5O years ago,
I was counselled by my TV repairman to abandon reliance upon blued guns for personal defense,
in favor of highly reflective silver colored guns, especially for nocturnal use. He proved to be right.

For the sake of safety, it is possible to apply materials to the walls
that will reduce the chances of penetration or of deflection.
