Old movie - I'm pretty sure it was made in the US.
Young woman in Texas tells the tale which is a flash back story about her grandmother as a disturbed child in Mexico. She is kept at home and knits for sanity. Finally the wagon comes to take her off and the scene is of her dragging her 50 foot knit shawl behind her.
