why do all the characters onfamily guy tv showhave 3 fingers and no thumbs?

Most cartoons only have 3 fingers. Look around, it's difficult to draw a hand and make it look good with all 4 fingers.

Look at a lot of other cartoon characters, they're the same. They've been drawn this way for decades.
