They're right about the crime. Sydney has really gone downhill, mainly due to gangs of Lebanese Muslims. But they are definitely wrong about the weather. Melbourne is a dog for weather.

Why do you think so, patiodog?
Because sometimes the sewer backs up into the streets. Very colorful.

Now that's not nice!
How are the folks of East St Louis supposed to feel about that?
What on earth did they do to deserve it?

Corrupt and bankrupt government. No services. Sewer backing up into the streets.
I'm sure most of them agreed.
from Train Song, by Tom Waits:
Quote:
Well I broke down in East St. Louis
On the Kansas City Line.
I drunk up all my money
That I borrowed every time.
And I fell down at the derby,
Now the nights are black as coal.
It must have been a train that took me away from here
But a train can't bring me home.

WHAT'S THIS? MELBOURNE'S BEST

Melbourne has retained its position as the best city in the world to call home FROM.
Often derided as Bleak City by Sydneysiders, Melbourne topped a survey of 130 cities, narrowly beating out the other four Australian capitals surveyed - because its weather rated the best.

Stilly - you left out one word - you feel MUCH better when you call home from Melbourne.
Surprising weather, eh, Olga - surely you jest - yes the weather is surprising - 4 seasons in one day is always a bit of a surprise - and damned inconvenient, too, especially if you're travelling. I was there on Grand Final day last year - I have NEVER been so miserable! Cold, wet, blown, tired, footsore, hungry, sheeesh! And this in the city!
Good to get home!

But today is delightful, margo! 24 C, following 40 C yesterday. Ya gotta keep on your toes in Marvellous Melbourne. No place for the complacent! We keep our winter clothes handy in summer just in case ....

Now that does sound somewhat unpleasant, patiodog!
I take it that life is far superior in West St Lous?

Yes, since there is no West St. Louis. I've got family from St. Louis proper, but I've never been there. However, as only East St. Louis was named Worst City, I suspect that life is, in fact, better in the city with the arch thingy...

No worries. You can feel free to ignore me when I spout gibberish, if it pleases you. I won't take offense. (Likely, I'll just understand that it's time to shut up...)
