softener regeneration is shaking my house

When my rain soft system regenerates, my whole house shakes for about 1 second. Then the bathroom tub faucet upstairs makes a hissing noise and there is no water available at any faucet in the house. I thought I had it set to regeneration once a week, but I just came home and the system was spraying water out of the connector that comes from the well tank that goes into the resin tank...obviously too much pressure going into the resin tank. I did a manual regen on Monday, an there was nothing notable that happened, no shaking, no hissing, no nothing.....so now I'm even more confused. Any help / suggestions on what's going on would be awesome.
