@Steven07,

This is my approximate best of the year list so far:
All of these movies I've seen in the almost dozen theaters here in NYC.

I think all or most of the Hollywood films are highlighted in orange.
1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)
2. Melancholia (2011)
3.The Skin I Live In (2011)
4. Drive (2011)
5. Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011)
6. Certified Copy (2010)
7. Rango (2011)
8. The Trip (2010)
9. Midnight in Paris (2011)
10. The Ides of March (2011)
11. The Tree of Life (2011)
12. Super 8 (2011)
13. 13 Assassins (2010)
14. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
15. Hugo
16. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
17. Contagion (2011)

@djjd62,
If it's something good, I'll usually get it in 2D, as well.

@tsarstepan,
I absolutely hated Rango.

Lying and faking your way to success, endangering everyone along the way.... great message for kids.

@djjd62,
How are we defining this year? Films that are eligible for Oscars this year.
I loved Kings Speech but that was "last year."

Forks Over Knives IMO should win best documentary.

Rango was disappointing.

@djjd62,
As a single dad I never see anything I want to watch at the cinema, this year I've seen Cars 2, Horrid Henry and Tintin, all in 3D.

You do realize DrewDad that simply because a movie is animated that it may not be movie aimed at tweens or younger, right? Teenagers and older can understand the characters character flaws as more realistic and not something to exactly consider mentor worthy/imitable.

Although deceivingly marketed as a kid-friendly movie in trailers and commercials,

Couldn't agree more with that line.

And regardless of kids, I still didn't like it.

I was surprised to see The Skin I Live In as number 3. I have not seen it but I heard that audiences walked out on it. I also heard that it was inspired by the 1959 French horror film, Eyes Without A Face.

@wandeljw,
There is very much a mad scientist vibe and soap operatic feel to Pedro Almodovar's wickedly twisted film.

@love2me,
Interesting fact, Robert Hardy, who plays Cornelius Fudge wasn't in it, because at the age of 80, the insurance costs were prohibitive.
