car speakers

I am hooking up my car system and I have currently brought a 15" L5 solar baric kicker speaker.I am running it to a 3000 watt bass inferno.At first i wasnot to happy with the output of my L5,because i had some yellow and black kicker 12" that was louder.I had to the speaker out to realize the company i brought it from only had one one positive and one negative side hooked up out of four.So I connected all four up.the 2reds to each other and the two black to each other.It definetly plays harder now,But i paid alot of money for the speaker and i do not want to bust it.the amp is rated 1x3000 @ 2 ohmsbut i dont think its true power...im not sure though i dont want to be giving it to much power and if i can give it more power through a better amp i would like to know..also if i did the best thing by wiring my voice coils like that
