Hello !
I am stuck with the verb 'feed' and the preposition 'on'. Is there any difference between the two sentences below?

They feed the cow barley.
They feed the cow on barley.

or,
Do they mean exactly the same? can they be used interchangeably?

Thank you in advance.

@bubu,
They are interchangeable in the form: They-->barley.
However the alternative sentence "Cows feed on barley" cannot be replaced by "Cows feed barley".
