The Pale Man.
Was that supposed to be a take on Goya's "Saturn Devouring His Children"?

I can't find an image, but there's the shot in the movie where the little girl looks at a mural on the wall where the pale man is eating children.

I've seen the movie twice, and the first time, the comparison really struck me.

@chai2,
Is this a children's story, I've not seen it...

I don't think Otis would care for it.

@Rockhead,
Children's story as in a movie for kids? Lord no!

It's rated R in the US for good reason. Lots of violence.

Yeah, it was pretty disturbing. Not the fantasy parts, but what was going on in real life.
I remember thinking how awful it would be to take a kid to the movie, thinking it was going to be all fantastical. What a mistake.

BTW, the theme song? So haunting.

Anyway tsar, do you think they had SDHC in the backs of their minds when creating the Pale Man?

Rocky, you should check it out.

Here's the Pale Man scene. The pictures on the wall start at around :45.

@chai2,
I'm not sure of the connection. If there was one, it might bit be deliberate. Mexican director Guillermo del Toro could have coopted the work or the sentiment behind the Spanish work.

I wonder if it's commented on in any director's commentary track.
