Husker, I do not think that is the song.
It goes like this:
there is power in the word
there is power in the love
there is power in the name of Jesus
Husker's version is the one I know.
I bet there is two songs a lot a like
I listen to old church hymns (especially those of the rural american south), chants, religious opera, and I used to listen to Jars of clay. But that is not because they are christian, it is because I will not refuse to listen to a good band just because they sing about Christianity. Unfortunately for my ears, most Christian bands Iv'e heard aren't very good. They are sort of repetative and brainwashy, and their lyrics are predictible. I really appreciated Jars of Clay's song "flood" which was on a religious topic, but went deeper to explore what biblical Noah may have been feeling with both their lyrics and music.
I once listened to a death metal christian band, which was pretty funny. Are they any up and comers with inventive lyrics and a folky feel I may not have heard of?
I understand that young people are actually dancing to Christian/Gospel music in clubs nowadays. Anyone else hear about this? What do you think about it? It's just way to different for my taste. I was taught that it was wrongwrongwrong to dance or even snap your fingers to gospel music. (Altho' alot of it is/was swingin'!)
I'd rather make a jpuful noise
Oh yeah We could praise, loudly, but snapping fingers and boogying was not allowed.
I hardly know anything about it, but I've heard some old gospel that I liked ...
I had this tape of a Specialty Records collection album that had both gospel and blues, "It's Spelt Specialty", that I really liked. I've also been looking up songs by Marian Anderson and Paul Robeson. Both had magnificent voices - and sang lots about God.
A. could sing along to some of these songs, knew 'em still by heart - but yeh, all that was pretty traumatic memories, so I couldnt play it too much.
Anyway, yeh - cant say I know much about any of it!

i like veggie tales.
i also like the gospel gangstas. why would they be silly? if they get the right message out to the people who like thick music & tight rhymes...what's the big?
eoe - we do the electric slide in my church sometimes...rare, but somtimes. I would ask those that say it's wrong to dance to gospel music, why would David dance unto the Lord and I can.t...
What was David's dance? Bet it wasn't the electric slide.
most likely not. but he did dance (at least he says so in the bible) :-)
I love Christian music;
Black Sabbath, Dio, Iron Maiden, etc...
I love Blindside.
Although they are not outward Christian rock band, the christian music industry (for some odd reason) embraces them as a christian band, which is funny because they sing about fire and killing and vampires and other un-Christian themes.
I have attended a couple Christian music concerts, Twila Paris, and the "Young Messiah" extravaganza
with Sandi Patti, et al. There was some fine music, but quite honestly, I was very put off by the proselytizing of some of the attendees, and the merchants hawking junk like tacky T-shirts depicting bloody nails and thorny crowns. It really turned me off to the whole contemporary Christian music experience.
